What is GDPR?

GDPR is an abbreviation of General Data Protection Regulation, referring to the new regulations that apply to all companies worldwide that process the personal data of European Union (EU) citizens.

The aim of the regulation is to ensure the consistent application of the regulations/ rules throughout the EU.

The regulation will improve data protection and broaden the rights of all individuals whose information is found in personal data registers or databases. Consequently, the regulation will affect all companies processing personal data.

The General Data Protection Regulation entered into force on May 24th 2016 and will apply from May 25th 2018. All personal data processing must then comply with the GDPR.
